Student Contests

Assalamu Alaikum Dear Parents,

The Grade 6 students will once again be participating in the annual Polar Expressions Writing contest for students across Canada.  The students will be writing a short story that must not exceed 450 words.  The story should be original and not use any fan fiction or real names.  It must also be Islamically appropriate, as some of the stories will be published and our students will be representing Abraar School.  Students are asked to submit their typed short stories on Tuesday, November 15.  In addition, they can submit a poem (32 lines or less) by Tuesday, November 1 (optional).  I look forward to reading the students' creative submissions!

Thanks for your ongoing cooperation,
Tr. Salma

CTBS Testing for Abraar Students Oct. 12-14

Dear Parent/Guardian(s)
Asalamu-Alaikum

Next week we will be administering the Canadian Tests of Basic Skills (CTBS) to our students in Grades 3, 5, 6 & 8 from October 12-14.
The tests do not need any preparation or studying.

Canadian Test of Basic Skills (CTBS) are trusted group assessment tools that enable schools to identify student achievement in major curriculum areas including vocabulary, reading, language, mathematics, and science.
With the results of CTBS, schools will be able to:
  • Identify high and low achieving students
  • Make decisions for grouping of students
  • Plan instructional emphases
  • Measure growth of learning
  • Evaluate effectiveness of instruction
  • Report to parents on student progress
The Schedule for grade 3,5 and 6 will be as follows:
