استمتع الطلبة بعد الجهود التي حققوها خلال الفصل الدراسيّ الأول لهذا العام بحفلة تم فيها تحضيرلفائف السوشي اليابانية. و كذلك تم التعرف مسبقا على الأفعال و التسميات المستخدمة لتحضير هذا الطبق و كتابة الخطوات في اللغة العربية. و أود مشاركتكم ببعض الصور:

Language Updates

Assalamu alaikum,

We have completed the Short Story Unit in Language and the students are very enthusiastic about starting the Poetry Unit.  So far, we have tried our hand at writing a variety of poems from Quatrains to Limericks.  We are also studying poems written by famous poets from different eras.  I look forward to seeing some more creativity as we delve into the rest of the Unit!

Alhamdullillah we finished chapter 4 and I am reviewing the chapter to prepare the students for the test.  The Test will be on Wednesday, December 2nd inshaaAllah.

We're concluding our first unit on Biodiversity this week. 

 

Our first Science gallery for this year "Bio Life Gallery" will be held in Elementary Gym on Friday, November 27 @ 9 am to 11 am. Parents are welcome.

Next week, we will start our new unit on "Air and Flight" inshaAllah.

Arts/Drama

We continue our rehearsals for the story of Prophet Musa.

The designs of two pieces of your costumes are due next week (Nov.30-Dec 4).

سيعقد اختبار القراءة للغة العربية للصف السادس في يوم الأربعاء القادم الموافق 4 نوفمبر 2015 بمشيئة الله.  سيتم الاختبار في جميع الدروس  التي تمت دراستها و مراجعتها, و معاني الكلمات التي في الكتاب, و الأسئلة التالية من التمرين الأول ( أجيب  عن الأسئلة ) :

1-" مدرستي الأولى " : الفقرة 1, 3, 4 من السؤال الأول.

2- " بين صديقين " : الفقرة  1, 3, 4 من السؤال الأول.

3- " تجربة طريفة " : 1, 2, 3 من السؤال الأول.

ملاحظة: ( تم حل جميع الأسئلة في دفتر اللغة العربية للطالب أو الكتاب).

عند تسجيل علامة الطالب , سيؤخذ بعين الاعتبار المهارات التالية:

Science Updates

Great accomplishments this week!! 

• Most students did very well on their quiz last Monday. Alhamdu lillah!
• Students got very busy working on their brochures about a certain biome. They also also went through their first check for their upcoming project "Imaginary Organism" which is due this Monday, November 6th. 
• Please follow the guidelines for this important project.
• Please adhere to due dates as late submissions will lose marks! Such a waste of hard work!

Polar Expressions Writing Contest!

Assalamu Alaikum Dear Parents,

The Grade 6 students will be participating in the 2015 Polar Expressions Writing Contest.  The students are expected to submit a short story on or before November 17.  The maximum length of the story is 450 words.  We have already discussed the criteria and requirements for the stories and I am now looking forward to some exciting and creative submissions!  Have fun, Grade 6 writers!

• We've had a successful art workshop this week, alhamdu lillah. Students enjoyed drawing and coloring fall leaves.
• Students will present their short performances about "Cooperation" this week and the next in class.
• Please send to school any unwanted items for our drama/art centers (clothing, hand bags, eye wear, table cloth, apron, kitchenware, curtain, art supplies, ...)

Math Updates

Alsalamo Alikom dear Respected Parents,

InshaaAllah by next week I will be starting the speed math program with both Grade 5 and 6 students. The speed math program is a set of 60 math sheets that focus on basic arithmetic facts. Each sheet has 60 problems and is an even mix of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division that the students should do with ease in their head using mental math. Every student will receive a tracking sheet to keep a track on their scores, after every 10 sheets students will be asked to draw a line graph to be able to keep a track on their progress. 

This will help the students a lot to learn how to be fast and accurate while using mental math skills.

Also I started working on critical thinking problems by giving the students every week a critical thinking question that they need to think about and they will share their answers with the whole class. So today's question is: How to make 11 + 11 = 10.

After a while inshaaAllah you will find your child start to think critically and be able to use different strategies and techniques when it comes to problem solving and by this the students will start be performing on a higher order thinking levels (applying Bloom's Taxonomy) and that is my goal for this year inshaaAllah.
